VP BINAY URGES GOV'T TO HASTEN REHAB EFFORTS IN BOHOL
Vice President Jejomar C. Binay Friday said the reconstruction of badly damaged areas in Bohol will be given priority under his administration after the Commission on Audit (COA) scored the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) over the slow implementation of recovery and rehabilitation projects in areas affected by the 2013 Bohol earthquake and super typhoon Yolanda.
"Ilang taon na ang lumipas pero hanggang ngayon hindi pa rin naibibigay ang tulong para sa mga biktima ng lindol at ng bagyong Yolanda," the said.
The Vice President cited a recent audit report from COA that showed only 12 out of the 1,079 rehabilitation projects under the DILG’s Bohol Earthquake Assistance (BEA) program have been completed as of the end of 2014.
The same report also revealed that despite the full release of P1.778 billion for Rehabilitation Assistance for Yolanda Victims (RAY) - Batch 1, only 138 out 323 were completed as of December 31, 2014.
"Nakakalungkot na kahit may pondo para tulungang muling makabangon ang mga naapektuhan ng lindol at bagyong Yolanda, hindi ito nagamit ng wasto at hindi nakarating sa mga dapat na makatanggap ng tulong," Binay said.
He also said his administration will eliminate indecisiveness as he promised to support programs that will enable local governments address their needs.
"Aksyon agad. Wala ng teka teka at wala ng analysis by paralysis," he added.
Binay is in Bohol to meet with sectoral groups, local leaders and residents in Loon, Tubigon and Getafe. He will also visit Talibon, Bien Unido, Ubay, Pilar, Carmen and Tagbilaran.
