examples of liabilities

It has come to our attention that another page is stealing photos from The Crochet Crowd Page. I want to address this as a whole.

One examples of liabilities the most important guidelines we have and I know it ticks off some people is that we refuse to upload photos to our Facebook that are not ours. By uploading it ourselves, we make ourselves liable for the legal issues in the event that someone claims we have stolen copyright materials. For some who don't understand how to upload photos, it up...sets them when we say no. For us here, we have enough on our plate without having to deal with threats of legal action in the event a copyright is infringed upon.

While we cannot prevent theft of photos, as it's a Facebook issue. You can always tell when a photo has been taken and re-uploaded by the way it appears in another page or personal profile. If someone else has taken a photo or copyrighted materials and uploads it to our page, they are liable and the trace can be done back to them as being the origin. Though, we tend to remove copyright materials if we discover it. Example would be a picture of a pattern instructions. The responsibility still rests with the original uploader but we try to protect the original artists as best we can.

When shared, which is ethically responsible, it appears on other pages of Facebook to the origin which includes the person's name that uploaded it. I have provided an example.

You can tell when it's stolen and reuploaded because it will not have the credit to where the photo is from and simple say "Name of Page Added a Photo". People who run groups or pages tend to do this when a picture is popular on another page and they are wanting to have the same popularity to boost their stats in response but do not want to share where they found it. They are trying to have their cake and eat it too without extending credit to the original person or to where they found it.

This issue is a global issue. Unfortunately, we cannot do anything about it. Facebook Terms of Service also protects Facebook from any liability regarding this issue, however, if you report content that is stolen to Facebook, they usually take care of it

While I like to say we live in a glorious world and people respect each other's creativity and artwork, unfortunately that is not true. I expect this will be a battle that will out live my lifetime. It's sad, but a truth to being online in a global world.

Michael
