The Ombudsman's report on the Tiger Dams deal was released yesterday and it was - pardon the pun - damning of the Selinger government.

It found that NDP Minister Steve Ashton tried to award a $5 million untendered contract for Tiger Dams despite the fact that senior civil servants in his department expressed serious concerns about the contract and awarding it untendered. Thankfully, someone blew the whistle.

Friends, this is just the latest in a long list of scandals. The NDP shows no respect for the civil service and continues to put its political interests above those of the province.

Your new Progressive Conservative government will restore Manitobans’ trust and return integrity to their government by bringing in Manitoba’s first Open Government initiative.

This initiative will establish new, higher standards for transparency and accountability. And yes, it will include open contracting procedures, and give real authority to independent Legislative officers to investigate and report.
