I've only been to a few memorial services in my life. They generally seem to be about celebrating the person, not mourning the loss. Lemmy was the real thing for me. He was a rock. How his voice kept up is something that is like the buddhist monk who dies and his body doesn't decay. Lemmy's vocal what i like about you chords were subjected to a constant barrage of abuse and massive amounts of smoke and other toxins. And yet, he kept going. Lemmy is an example of 100% commitment. That's unusual. Ozzy Osbourne said Lemmy wrote the best lyrics and really fast. Which means they were a direct expression of the man's inner being.
RIP Ian Lemmy Kilmister, you are an inspiration. As my first live concert, you're like my first love, or my first kiss. Some things you never forget, and it's massive to have such happiness when I think of that night at the Colston Hall Bristol, Iron Fist Tour in 1983, with Chris Green and Alan Squires, 6th row. Fast Eddie threw his pleccie out and it went over our heads. They blew the roof off. Came back for 2 or 3 encores, and played fucking LOUD with their Marshall Stacks. Dry ice, bullet belts, cigarette in mouths, Filthy Phil on the drums, man, that band played the shit out of the place. Unforgettable night.
